Functions and relations

A function assigns every element of its domain exactly one element of its codomain.

Composition

For compatible functions, $(g\circ f)(x)=g(f(x))$. Composition is associative, but it is generally not commutative.

An inverse exists precisely when the function is bijective on the chosen domain and codomain.
